Tondo Medical Center was established in 1971. In the old days, several derogatory terms have been used to describe the hospital. Katayan. Matadero. These were some of the disparaging names that TMC has been called. Over the years, it has tried to erase these connotations by striving to provide the highest level of quality healthcare to the people it serves.
Improvements in physical infrastructure, health services, workforce, and supplies have significantly contributed to making TMC known as a leading hospital on this side of the metropolis. TMC commits itself to delivering the highest level of quality health service. In 2015, it was granted ISO 9001:2015 certification as a testament to its quest to improve the overall impression and services it gives. Two years later, it was given ISO 9001:2015 certification because of the vast improvement in terms of quality. At present, the hospital is also accredited by the Philippine Tripartite Accreditation for Health Facilities, Inc. Not resting on its laurels, TMC is now treading the good governance pathway by adopting the Performance Governance System (PGS). It received the Gold Trailblazer Award for Initiation, Compliance and Proficiency stage.
